Antique Turkish Sparta rug with a playful 1930s adaptation of the hunting design seen on a group of Safavid carpets from the 16th to 18th centuries. We see lions, leopards, deer, and cows, going about life among colorful blossom palmettes linked by thin arabesque tendrils. The colors are rich and magnificently placed in visual harmony. The ground is a rare and satisfying red that is difficult to describe as it changes with the light from cool to warm. The mesmerizing arabesque border is a rich saffron-gold. What a joy to behold.
