Antique Qarajeh Rug 4'9"x6'9" Barjid Village Colorful Masterpiece
Antique Qarajeh Rug 4'9"x6'9" Barjid Village Colorful Masterpiece
Rug No. 1611
Antique village rug from Barjid, East Azerbaijan Province in NW Iran. This beautiful rug captures the amazing range of subtle colors that talented artisanal wool dyers were once capable of. Unfortunately, these nuanced dyeing techniques have been lost or forgotten. The design on this, as in most Barjid rugs, is similar to their neighbors in Qarajeh (Karaja) with an “eagle” centerpiece and two eight pointed medallions. The ground is a lovely orangey red with balanced accents in aquamarine, pale lemon yellow, seafoam, pastel pink, birds egg blue, pale peach, and cream. Lovely, authentic, and uncommon.
Size: 4'9"x6'9"
Age: 1930
Origin: Barjid village, East Azerbaijan Province
Materials: Hand knotted hand spun wool pile on wool/cotton foundation. Natural dyes.
Condition: Good condition overall with low lustrous pile and a few small areas showing wear. Ready to enjoy and suitable for normal everyday use. Professionally hand washed.
