Antique Semnan Rug 4’3”x6’5” William Morris Meets Classical Persian

Antique Semnan Rug 4’3”x6’5” William Morris Meets Classical Persian
Rug No. 52610
Antique Persian Semnan rug with an absolutely captivating design and colorway. You might instantly think of William Morris and his expressively earthy botanical artwork, but he did draw inspiration from Persian and Indian art and textiles. When this rare rug was made, around 1930, there was plenty of feedback between the eastern and western aesthetics. Semnan rugs were never produced in great numbers and the examples we do find are of the highest quality in terms of design, colors, and fineness of wool and weave. This example pleases the eye with a soft apricot ground, a border that looks like the blackest velvet, pops of jade green, mulberry, cerise, pale yellow, taupe, bird egg blue, and dusty rose. Needless to say, we are thrilled to have this very special beauty in our collection.
