Antique Haji Jalili Tabriz Rug 7'6"x11'7" Famed 19th Century Workshop Masterpiece
Rug No. 76550
Fine antique Persian Tabriz rug from the famed 19th century workshop of Haji Jalili. Rugs from the Haji Jalili workshop in Tabriz are widely accepted as among the finest and most beautiful carpets produced during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Their identifying characteristics are a soft pale tonality usually in terracotta, cream, with pale blues, oranges, yellows, light browns, and a particular shade of charcoal. The wool is velvety and closely clipped with a fine weave of around 250 knots per square inch. They predominantly have a medallion format, but sometimes pictorial or all-over patterns can be found. This rug is extraordinary in that it has pictorial features at the ends transforming into smaller floral patterns as the design approaches the center. Every detail is magnificent and entices the viewer to follow the path of each vine, leaf, and blossom. The quirky figures in the trees at the ends are derived from the ancient mythology of the Vaq Vaq tree. A fine art masterpiece for the floor.
